Colorado Water News is a valuable source for information, resources and education for one of Colorado's most precious resources.

In recent years Colorado's water has been a source of debate and controversy. Its shortage has sparked a revolution of water's traditional uses. The value of water has been forced into the foreground and realized by many different groups from different backgrounds who have diverse ideas regarding how it should be shared.

Colorado water rights are a person’s or entity’s right to use the waters of Colorado. They are based on the priority of a party's acquisition of a certain amount of water, in a certain place, for certain uses. Water in Colorado is treated as a private property right that is bought and sold and can be separated from the land it is on. The owner can lease or sell the rights to others, apart from the rights to the land. These transactions must be properly recorded. The ownership rights are tracked through title and deed research, much like with land transactions. It is important to have professional legal advice from an attorney who is experienced and knowledgeable about Colorado water law.

Lind, Lawrence & Ottenhoff LLP has served the water community for over 25 years. We have had the privilege to serve a geographically and demographically diverse group of clients across Colorado.
